Subsistence hobby farming (Web site currently being revised)

At 6,900 feet on 3 acres in Flagstaff, Arizona, Mountain Meadow Farm produces food and other agricultural products using sustainable practices. It has served as a demonstration site for our community but in 2010 we have moved away from commercial operations. We intend to satisfy our needs for a variety of nutritious, delicious foods produced without the use of petrochemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Our farm uses permaculture design principles and strategies. Chuck McDougal, Mountain Meadow Farm’s owner, designer and farmer, farms with the help of his wife, Denise. We passionately advocate sustainable agriculture and the pleasure of homegrown food.

Permaculture: the basis for the design and operation of Mountain Meadow Farm

At Mountain Meadow Farm, we devote our time to exploring the materials, methods, tools, systems, and relationships that forward our quest for sustainable living. Using the permaculture system as our primary guide, we research, develop, design, and work sustainable human habitats. In addition to our edible landscape and gardens, our farm features a state-of-the-art Bioshelter, which has a greenhouse, barn, root cellar, plant processing areas, and more.
